Our Honoree

Each year, the ACLU of Michigan honors individuals and organizations that advocate for civil liberties in Michigan. This year we are proud to honor civil-rights attorney and anti-poverty activist Jackie Doig.

Jackie Doig
For more than 30 years, Jackie has championed the rights of the most vulnerable, representing low-income Michiganders who were wrongfully denied critically needed public benefits such as access to food assistance and medical care. Jackie's impact on poverty law in Michigan is extraordinary.  As a result of her tireless advocacy, literally hundreds of thousands of children and families can meet their basic needs, put food on their tables, and visit a doctor when they are sick. Most recently, Jackie has worked with the ACLU to restore food assistance and other critical benefits to 20,000 people who were illegally denied assistance, many of whom faced hunger and homelessness.
