FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DETROIT – The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan (ACLU) celebrates the passage of Proposal 2, Promote the Vote 2022. The constitutional amendment expands voting rights statewide and ensures Michigan’s election system remains safe, accessible, and secure.

Today’s victory builds on the work the ACLU of Michigan successfully led in 2018, when voters overwhelmingly passed a constitutional amendment to modernize Michigan’s voting system, making the state a leader nationwide.

Loren Khogali, ACLU of Michigan executive director, has this statement:

“Thank you, Michigan, for continuing to expand voting rights – the cornerstone of a thriving democracy. The passage of Proposal 2, Promote the Vote 2022, ensures a fair and secure system that removes barriers to the ballot box so that all eligible voters can make their voices heard. Today’s victory shows that protecting our democracy is a Michigan value, as we continue to support an election system that works for we, the people – and that means everyone.”
