Join the ACLU of Michigan on Friday, November 1 at the historic Henry Ford Museum for our Annual Dinner as we host our special guest Aasif Mandvi.

Our Special Guest:
 Aasif Mandvi
Aasif Mandvi has served as correspondent for Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart since 2006. His work frequently highlights the absurdities in our political system, and shines a light on injustices and intolerance perpetrated by the powerful against powerless individuals and groups.

He is the recipient of the OBIE award for his critically-acclaimed one-man show "Sakina's Restaurant”, which he performed and conceived, and which later became the inspiration for his feature film, “Today’s Special.” Aasif’s film and television credits include; "The Proposal," "Ghost Town," "Spider-Man 2," "Analyze This," "Sex and the City," "Sleeper Cell," "The Sopranos," "CSI," and "Law and Order.” His most recent film is the 2013 comedy, “The Internship.”

Our Honorees: Jeff and Peg Padnos and Michigan's DREAMers
Each year, the ACLU of Michigan honors individuals and organizations that have worked to advocate the cause of civil liberties and civil rights in Michigan.

Jeff and Peg Padnos have been instrumental advocates and supporters of the ACLU since opening our West Michigan office in 2010. They have worked in public and behind the scenes to persuade business leaders to support amending the state human rights law to include sexual orientation, and have joined us on a myriad of issues to assist the underdog. Jeff’s father, Stuart Padnos, was one of two sons of Jewish immigrants who, as a family built a successful scrap recycling business in Holland, Michigan. He and the family made a significant gift in memory of former ACLU state board member Leonard Grossman, who served with him in WWII, and asked that we name our immigration work in his honor.

This year, we are also proud to recognize several young students who helped us persuade Michigan’s Secretary of State to drop an unlawful policy that prevented young immigrants brought to the country as children – commonly known as DREAMers – from receiving driver’s licenses and identification cards in the state.
