Michigan’s Funeral Protest Law Struck Down as Unconstitutional

DETROIT – In a victory for free speech, a federal judge in Michigan yesterday struck down a state statute that makes it illegal to “adversely affect” a funeral.
The American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Michigan said today that they are challenging “pay or stay” sentences imposed on five persons across the state who were illegally jailed for being too poor to pay court fines.

DETROIT – A federal judge ordered the Genesee County Parks to immediately halt enforcement of a rule banning volunteers from the Committee to Recall Governor Snyder to petition anywhere in a 135-acre park but an isolated 3 foot by 3 foot area.
