Four years ago, my son Jabari and other Flint schoolchildren poisoned by lead-contaminated drinking water sued the state and local school districts because they were not getting the special education services required by law. Last month, a settlement agreement in that lawsuit was finally announced. It brings some much-needed good news, not just for Jabari and my family, but for every child whose development was harmed by the lead-laced drinking water officials repeatedly assured us was safe.
